Background of the Study
Digital narratives, particularly in the form of online blogs, have redefined storytelling in Nigeria. These narratives blend traditional linguistic forms with modern digital influences, leading to innovative morphological patterns. Bloggers often coin new words, adopt hybrid structures, and modify traditional affixes to create unique expressions that resonate with digital audiences (Umar, 2023). This study examines how digital narratives influence the morphology of Nigerian English and indigenous languages. By analyzing a corpus of blog posts, the research investigates morphological changes such as neologism formation, compounding, and affixation patterns that emerge in the digital realm. These innovations not only reflect the dynamic evolution of language in response to technology but also serve as markers of cultural identity in an increasingly globalized world. The study aims to document these morphological shifts, assess their communicative impact, and understand their role in the broader context of language evolution in Nigeria (Umar, 2023; Eze, 2024).
Statement of the Problem
Despite the rapid growth of digital narratives in Nigeria, there is limited research on how these narratives influence morphological patterns. Existing studies have focused on content and stylistic features without a detailed analysis of the underlying morphological changes. This gap restricts our understanding of how online blogs drive language innovation and affect language standardization. The absence of systematic analysis hinders the development of language policies that accommodate digital linguistic practices. Addressing this issue is essential to capture the evolving nature of Nigerian morphology in the digital age (Umar, 2023; Eze, 2024).
Objectives of the Study
To identify morphological innovations in Nigerian online blogs.
To analyze the processes of neologism formation and affixation.
To assess the impact of digital narratives on traditional morphological structures.
Research Questions
What new morphological patterns emerge in Nigerian online blogs?
How do digital narratives influence traditional morphological processes?
What are the broader implications of these changes for language evolution?
Significance of the Study
This study contributes to our understanding of digital-induced language change by examining morphological innovations in Nigerian online blogs. The findings will inform linguists, educators, and policymakers on how digital narratives reshape language structures and cultural identity (Umar, 2023).
Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is limited to online blog posts and does not extend to other digital narrative forms.
